Ohtani Thankful After 'Special' Return to Anaheim
Los Angeles Angels' Shohei Ohtani made his long-awaited return to Anaheim on Tuesday night, and he did not disappoint.
The two-way star went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs in the Angels' 5-2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
It was Ohtani's first game back in Anaheim since he suffered a UCL sprain in his right elbow in early July.
Ohtani was understandably emotional after the game.
"It was a special night for me," Ohtani said through an interpreter.
"I'm just so thankful to be back on the field and playing in front of our fans."
Ohtani's return is a big boost for the Angels, who are currently in the midst of a playoff race.
The Angels are 6-3 since Ohtani returned to the lineup, and they are now just 2.5 games out of a wild-card spot.
Here are some of the highlights from Ohtani's return to Anaheim:
- Ohtani hit a solo home run in the first inning off Dodgers starter Julio Urías.
- Ohtani doubled in Mike Trout in the third inning.
- Ohtani pitched a scoreless fifth inning, striking out two batters.
Ohtani's performance on Tuesday night was a reminder of just how valuable he is to the Angels.
He is one of the most unique players in baseball, and he has the potential to be a superstar.
With Ohtani back in the lineup, the Angels have a chance to make a run at the playoffs.
